I arrived in China on Sunday the 4th of September. And the good news I got married to Yen on Monday the 5th. The marriage went smoothly thanks to all the advice given here. We have almost everything prepared for Yen's visa application, so now it's fingers crossed as we move onto the next stage. But just time to relax and have a quick drink 1st drunken

    Congratulations Kev and Yen.
I'm glad everything went smoothly for you both.

When are you applying for the Visa ?

Did you write a letter explaning the circumstances of yourself and Yen for the UKBA and get any supporting letters from family and friends?

    Thanks,
We have a small mountain of paperwork to support Yen's visa application. I have to return to work in a few days so Yen will apply later this week or early next week. I feel we have done the best possible now its in someone elses hands. We are having the wedding meal tonight in her Brothers restaurant, so looking forward to that.

Hi, I have now returned to the UK and Yen has remained in China and has submitted her Visa application. I have found out about a few new things that I previously didn't know. I had never come across the form SU07/01 before. I have now filled this in, scanned it and sent it to Yen.
But we also have another big worry. Yen jointly owns a 50% share in her home in Sheffield with her Nephew. Yen and her daughter Lucy have lived here for the past 18 months We have a letter from her Nephew stating that he has no objection to us living there. I asked Yen to supply a copy of the deeds just to have evidence of ownership. I only found out the night before I left China that the deeds are not in Yen's or her Nephews name, but seem to be in the Solicitors name. Both Yen and her Nephew seem to have missed this and they are both very concerned.
How will the ECO look at this, as this is the house we intend to live in when Yen returns to the UK.

Hopefully they won't check the Deeds word for word.

I would have been on the phone to the solicitors for an explanation immediately.

I have just received my CNI back from Chinese Visa Direct. I only sent it on the 9th and it was back on the 17th. This was the normal service not the fast track. So I would recommend them for the speed of service. So everything done with the FCO and Embassy.
    Ok now the question:
Can I scan the CNI and send this to Yen in China so she can have it translated, saving us some important time when I arrive back in China
Or will the translator need the original document ?
    Many thanks
    Kev

a little late now I know but should anybody be looking for information in the future you can scan and send a copy of the CNI to your translator prior to arriving.

I did this - they translated it and when I arrived they asked to see the origional to check it was the same as the scan then stamped and signed evrything - it took under 20 minutes from arriving at the translation office to having the translated copy!

I emailed a couple of translation companies to ask them if they would do this but none came back to me - in the end ming ming called them and found one who would. - we were both in the uk so this was a big help for us in terms if saving time when we arrived in nanning

    Hi Paul,

Purely for reference; what translation did you use?

The marriage office in Nanning only accepts translations from approved companies.

    All the best.

When we spoke to the civils affairs office they said that the translations had to be done by one of two companies - I cant remember the name of the other one but the one we used was speedy translations as they were very close to my wifes parents and the hotel we had booked - plus they were happy to do it from a scan (though we did get my wifes mum to drop the payment off prior to our arrival as well)

Again just for future reference I did scan and email Yen the CNI. This was then translated before I arrived in China saving us some time. We are now waiting for news of her visa application.

First and foremost before any translation, is to send a copy of your CNI to ensure it will be accepted by the Civil Affairs Marriage office.

Hi, sorry I have not been on for a while. I have been going through the difficult period of waiting for news of Yen's visa and her daughter Lucy.
Thanks to all the good advice given by everyone on here Yen now has her visa, and she didnt have to go in for an interview. Preparation of all the paperwork is so important and you guys are the experts. Thanks again for everything.

    Hey Kev,

Just by coincidence I'm taking Emirates flight number EK0381 from HK to Manchester on October 31st at 00:35 if they need any help. At the moment Emirates have superb prices from HK (but not from Guangzhou). I leave Nanning for HK on the evening flight, departs NNG at 18:10 and arrives at HK at 19:45 and could meet them at HK airport.

    Graham

BTW, Congratulations to all of you.
