Hi chris ,i agree about school fees, but we are having to send our boy to boarding school, as wife heard the local school (100yrds from our house) was not very good , so now it costs 17000 a year for boarding , and he still comes home every weekend mil

Re: Crunch Time
Well it has been almost a month since we started this exercise, I must admit, Joe has bitten the bullet, and is improving every week.
We paid 900rmb for 10 hours one on one tuition, which is now completed, and plan to buy another block of 10 hours, of course the school would like this open ended, but not the way I do things.
He has been getting himself by bus from school to english class by the 7 pm appointment on Friday, for the 2 hours a week, having food beforehand, or coming here to eat after, which is good because I can see what they are working on.
However I have told him, he misses just 1 and it's all over, but yes, he can knuckle down, which as I have said has surprised me.

Re: Crunch Time
I'm happy for all three of you Roger, you've done the right thing and you're getting a response. Perhaps threats should be eased off now and offer a bit of praise and encouragement? If it works out it can only be an advantage to your relationship. I can remember my wife saying to me, before we were married, ' What ever you give me I will return 10 times'. She has been good to her word and has been emulated by our daughter too. In saying that though, most people respond to kindness, support and love. OMG! I sound like a, 'Dear Dorthy Dix'! Sorry Roger, not intended
Cheers mate,
Chris.

Unfortunately, Joe's concentration span is quite short, and he slipped back into just being a 12 year old boy, so now the decision has been made, he will NOT be coming to Australia.
Discussion with Jin has been very detailed as to why, with no backlash apart from a very quiet house for a day, she can see how he would be overwhelmed with what he would be required to complete, learn english, plus the catch up school work, plus keeping up with the normal lessons.
Once we are settled, I have said we would organize a holiday to come over and have a look around, see his mum etc,
he has been told the plans and is a bit happier now it is all sorted, actually seemed quite relieved, job sorted, cheers

Re: Crunch Time
Hi Graham, wish we could see the year on these posts but pretty sure you asked this few months ago,
Joe has been back here with us since august, so about 1 month, he is 18 now so we treat him as an adult, he gets himself up, fixes breakfast and gets himself by bus off to Thebarton Senior College studying English Maths etc. so yes things do have a way of working out after all, he realises being older accepting australia as home is not a bad thing, proud of the boy/man, cheers

Re: Crunch Time
Roger, go to your Profile, then Preferences and Date and Time Format. Select one that has the year and suits you. I use the Australian way, so 6:16pm 20/9/2019, but there are other choices there.

Re: Crunch Time
Hi Roger.
Great to hear back from you.
Wonderful news that your lad has realised that there will be far more opportunities in Australia than he first thought.
I guess when his English and maths are at a good level, he can start to look for work that will bring him good money and great satisfaction.
